Each and every voice has a set of around 100 characteristics that determine what it sounds like. Half of those are physical characteristics – height, size of the lungs, shape of the mouth and throat – and the other half are behavioural characteristics – sound and words used. Your voice is unique entirely to you.

But there are also voices what shape who you believe you are - your identity. What voices are you listening to? The voices from your childhood that made you believe you had to do or be someone to fit in, to be accepted, to be loved? Or the voices that are on repeat daily in the advertising we see everywhere. These voices that tell you are what you have, or you are what you achieve. But there is an alternative - the voice of the Good Shepherd:

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

- Psalm 23

Faith isn’t an easy journey. Faith doesn’t mean that you won’t have sickness, death, trial, pain. Faith means in those spaces of darkness, fear, unknown and death you will have someone with you, protecting and comforting you. That is the voice that offers to define your identity. - one of protection. It is also a voice of prosperity - that regardless of circumstance that can be a peace that surpasses all understanding. Regardless of what is current happening in your life, there can be a sense of joy that is deeper than the pain. There is a promise in this voice that says you will never have to be alone. The promise of constant presence regardless of whats happening around you.
