SATURDAY 08 DECEMBER // Shalom for our World
Imagine a world fully engulfed in perfect shalom… in complete unity. It’s a beautiful vision, it’s what Jesus proclaimed in the temple (Luke 4:18-19) and what we as Christ ambassadors are called to pursue (Micah 6:8), but it’s hard to picture with the way things are currently.
If you thought yesterday’s challenge of bringing shalom to Aotearoa was overwhelming – what about uniting a world of nations full of conflicts (both large and small).
This call to bring peace is for us collectively, together and through the power of Christ. We may not be the one’s called to tangible action (or we may be...) but something we can all do is pray. Pray for unity. Pray for grace. Pray for peace. Pray for those in positions of power and authority to bring change. Pray for our brothers and sisters who are in places of conflict.
Read: Ephesians 2:14-16
For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.
Pray: Continue to thank God for your identity as His child and as someone called to bring peace. Ask what piece of His heart you are called into action to bring peace. What would this look like, and where should you start?
Respond: On your Advent calendar colour in today’s bauble, you might also like to include a scripture reference or note what God is speaking to you about.
