Day Twenty-One

Saturday 22 December // Joy for our world

The early followers of Jesus were distinctly known for their joy. It confounded and frustrated the opposing political leaders who persecuted and martyred them, yet it attracted and became the fuel that propelled the missional explosion that was the church.

They took on the call of Romans 10:14 – to be the ones who went, preached and brought good news. The good news that started with the proclamation from the angels that a saviour had been born, became deeply embedded in the hearts of the men and women of the early church and their joy literally changed the world.

In the world around us we can see evidence of hate, fear, injustice, discrimination, a distinct lack of joy. We have the privilege and responsibility of being the beautiful feet who bring good news to the world around us. How is the good news filling you with joy, and out of that what steps are you taking to share the good news to all the earth?

Read: 1 Peter 1:8
You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with glorious, inexpressible joy.

Psalms 40:8
I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.

Pray: Thank God for His glorious, inexpressible joy, that you have been gifted a piece of God’s heart of our world and the instructions for how to create change. Ask God to reveal your next steps and ways you can bring joy to the world around you.

Respond: On your Advent calendar colour in today’s bauble, you might also like to include a scripture reference or note what God is speaking to you about
